Dr. William D Varnell Jr, MD FACR graduated from Auburn University in 1977 with a degree in Chemistry.  He graduated from the University Of South Alabama School Of Medicine in 1981.  He went on to do an internship year with Baptist Health Systems in Birmingham in 1982 and a residency and fellowship in Body Imaging in Tucson, Arizona from 1982 to 1986.  He has a special interest in mammography and women’s health.  He is the lead mammographer at St. Vincent’s East, St. Vincent’s St. Clair, and St. Vincent’s Blount.  Dr. Varnell and his wife have a daughter living in Richmond and a son living in Atlanta.  In his free time he enjoys astronomy, photography, and sleight of hand.
