Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR, is a life-long resident of Birmingham, Alabama and a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed an internship and two years in general surgery and research at the University of Alabama Hospital prior to completing his residency in diagnostic radiology at Baptist Medical Center Hospitals in Birmingham. He completed a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging in 1991 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC and then returned to practice with the Birmingham Radiological Group.

Dr. Allen has been involved with graduate medical education and is the Program Director for the Brookwood Baptist Health Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and is a proponent of patient centered has interest in radiology quality and safety including radiation dose reduction as well as healthcare informatics. He has authored or co-authored 45 articles in the medical literature and given numerous presentations at national and international medical meetings.

Dr. Allen has also been a leader in numerous medical societies both at the local, national levels. He is past president and Silver Medal recipient of the Alabama Academy of Radiology. He has served for decades in the American College of Radiology (ACR) where his volunteer activity focused on healthcare economics. Allen joined the ACR Board of Chancellors as chair of the ACR Commission on Economics and was later elected chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors and ACR President. He is currently the Chief Medical officer of the ACR Data Science Institute and is an officer in the International Society of Radiology. He is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen ray Society and the American Medical Association.
